History & Legend of The Golden Chariot
Golden Chariot Train is the result of the MOU signed between the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and the Railways Ministry. This royal train of southern India was flagged off at the Yeshwanthpur station in Bangalore on March 10, 2008. It will complete two years of success in the forthcoming year 2010 in March. Till now Golden Chariot has commenced on several royal voyages throughout the Karnataka heritage sites along with Nagarhole and Bandipur National Park, and Goa.
Golden Chariot is aligned with other royal trains of India like Palace on Wheels, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, Deccan Odyssey. This train has been named after the famous Stone Chariot in Hampi village, a world heritage site. While Karnataka houses the world heritage sites, like Hampi, Badami and other various world famous destinations like the three circuits of Hospet-Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola, it was the endeavor of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation to provide an opportunity to the tourists to explore these destinations on a royal train.
